Tribute to John Schill,PhD
It’s a heartfelt tribute to my dedicated civil servant late husband John Schill, Phd. At the Defense Department, he worked on the technologies that eventually led to the creation of the Internet and AI. He spent the last four years of his life at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the agency that created what is now the Internet in 1969. He literally worked himself to death at the age of 54 on his DARPA projects to keep peace in the world. He saved the Defense Department billions of dollars by getting all of the military branches to work together on technology. At one of his memorial services, a military officer stood up and asked the congregation whether or not anyone knew about a nuclear altercation with North Korea in 1992. They all said “no.” The officer answered that was because John’s technology prevented it.
As I navigated through grief and loneliness, I realized that the digital age John helped build was transforming how love, loss, and connection live within us. CONNECTING SOULS was born from that insight.
Tribute to All Civil Servants
John is an example of the dedicated civil servants who have been keeping our country, food, water, and health safe since the civil service system was instituted in the USA in 1883. In this time of danger for our dedicated civil servants who are just as dedicated and passionate as John was, let us honor and thank them.
